Greetings, Rocker fans! And welcome to Lynns Hangouts’ newsletter! Thank you all for signing up so you can get a jump on exciting news!
Our IT department says the new LH website is almost ready to roll out! We are excited to bring you this fresh new look! Stay tuned!
Unlicensed Therapy is back with a new lead vocalist, Dana Caylor! Their first gig was 12/19/15 at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale. It was a fantastic night – read more about it below!
Category 4 broke up. Their last gig was at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale on 12/11/15. We sent them off with love and appreciation on a very fun night! This brings us back down to 58 bands.
Aaron Smith and Dwaine Goodwin left Superlicious the end of December to pursue other musical interests. Aaron was their lead guitarist and backup vocalist, while Dwaine was their bassist. They will be greatly missed in this awesome band! No word yet on who the replacements are.
I spoke to Mark Miner regarding Big Gunns. I am pleased to share that they have started to jam again and will be playing in March 2016! Stay tuned for event dates, so you can experience for yourself what this amazing band has to offer!
December website stats finished strong. As of the end of December, we had a cumulative total of over 46,800 unique visitors to the website; almost 318,000 page views; and a cumulative total of over 84,000 video views on You Tube! New visitor sessions stayed above 50% with 51%. Keep visiting LH often for more fun, and be part of these awesome stats!
We are so grateful and thankful for every one of you who has made a donation to LH during 2015! Your contribution gives us encouragement and makes it possible to keep up the fast pace checking out the local live music scene here in the Sacramento area. Thank you so much for supporting LH as we support this awesome group of talented folks! You are in our thoughts every day!
You are always welcome to come party with the LH team! Just check for the “Join LH” on the Home page gig schedule next to the events we will be hanging out at! We’d love to see you out supporting live music, and the group we hang out with is growing with such fun folks!
If you go to a gig you saw on LH, please don’t be shy about telling the band! I’m sure they would love to meet you as well as learn how you heard of their gig!
December was a great month to rock – full of family, friends, parties and live music! Here’s what happened:
12/5/15: We arranged to see The Sock Monkey at Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights since we don’t often get to party with them! But we had also promised to be at good friend Danniel Lipford’s birthday party! So double rock it was! We had a blast supporting The Monkey for a set of good ole rock and roll songs, which included some of our favorites! The band did an awesome job of flinging the hits to the fans to get them on the floor to shake their booty! We look forward to staying longer next time to hear their whole lineup!
12/5/15: Then we were off to The Corner Pocket Sports Bar in Citrus Heights to help celebrate our friend Danniel Lipford’s birthday with Skid Roses! The Pocket was hoppin’ when we got there, as there were actually two birthday groups celebrating on this fine evening! The Skids were having a ball entertaining and helping all the fans celebrate whatever they were celebrating! It was a super fun evening all the way around!
12/11/15: Tonight we squeezed in a little Legal Addiction action early at The Trocadero in Roseville with some close peeps! The party actually started at Bar 101 with dinner when we ran into good friend and guitar master of The Tone Monkeys, Dante Mutti, at the bar waiting for the Opera House Saloon to open so he could load in for their gig. We immediately asked Dante to join us at our table, and we had so much fun chatting about music, gigs and guitars! But the clock on the wall said tick tock – time to rock, so we parted ways with Dante and headed across the street to The Troc. Legal Addiction gave us such a warm welcome upon arrival, and they seemed to be having a fun time on stage mixing in some Christmas tunes with the rock we are accustomed to! After a couple of hours, we started to pack up to leave when Teri Alison and friends showed up! After a quick hug and chat, we headed on out the door.
12/11/15: Next on our double rock agenda was Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale with Category 4. This was their last gig after 20 years of being together as musicians. It was a touching and at times emotional night for us all. The place was hopping with fans and well-wishers even before the band started! I’ll have to say, the band was on fire – I have never seen them so jazzed up and full of energy! I captured a very cool interview with percussionist Mark Coudriet about his next project: Moonshine Crazy! That interview aired on 12/30/15. Check it out, if you haven’t already! We stayed ‘til the very last note of Category 4, chatted with each team member, then solemnly walked to the car. We will miss them as a team.
12/12/15: December is shaping up to be a Jan’s Lounge month – tonight with Four Barrel! It seemed the Christmas elf hit Jan’s overnight because the place looked gorgeous all decorated for Christmas! The band greeted us with open arms, they are always so nice and friendly. The crowd had a blast jumping around on the dance floor, and lead vocalist, Kally Pile, pulled as many fans into the mic as she could on various songs to help sing along! We had a blast, as we always do with this venue/band combo! It was a memory-book weekend!
12/19/15: Another Jan’s Lounge evening, but tonight very special! Not only were there some awesome birthdays being celebrated, but Unlicensed Therapy returned with their new lead vocalist, Dana Caylor! The place was hopping with reserved tables for the birthday crowd, well-wishers for Dana, and fans supporting the band’s return! Everyone anticipated the first note, the first song, and it finally arrived! Score – first song was a new song (Bitch Is Back) and great vocals from Dana, we were impressed from that moment! As the night wore on, we gained even more respect for Dana as she commanded the stage and pulled the fans into the night! Everyone was caught up in every song, packing the dance floor to the end of the night. An encore was called and the band reciprocated! It’s not often we experience an encore at local live music! Fantastic night – can’t wait to see Unlicensed Therapy again!
12/23/15: RedRadio was kind enough to invite me to their City of Sacramento’s Holiday Music Series at the Sacramento International Airport! How could I turn that down! I rode over with lead vocalist Tracy Butler, which gave us a great chance to chat and catch up. I had so much fun helping the band load in and out, and doing various odd jobs. The band played for a little over 2 hours, and during that time we met a lot of new folks from various parts of the country. Some came and sat and listened, some danced with me. There were tons of cell phones taking pictures and videos, as this must be something not often seen at an airport! The best part for me was knowing that folks from other parts of the country got to see a slice of Sacramento’s musical talent! This truly was one of the most fun times I’ve had with a band! We are all hoping for a repeat next year!
12/26/15: Another double rock night, and with good reason. First stop, the Country Club Saloon in Loomis with The Mock Ups! It’s been some time since we’ve seen the team and wanted to get one last party in with them before the New Year. Lead guitarist Jeff Ebbage was on fire this night tossing out guitar licks like they were candy! During ‘Stray Cat Strut’ he sat on the edge of the stage and got into the zone as only Jeff can! We love watching him work like this – such a thrill!
12/26/15: We had promised the RedRadio team a long time ago that when they had their first gig at Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, we would go support. Hence, the reason for double rock! We walked in to find a large table of our friends already enjoying the music, drinks and food! What a warm site, indeed! Even though we had just seen RedRadio at the Airport, we had a blast rockin’ out to their tunes with all these wonderful friends. With Christmas yesterday, double rock with such awesome peeps today – blessings are being counted!
December was quite the month to wrap up a marvelous year of rock and roll! Looking back over 2015, it’s clear to us that rock is here to stay in this great city! We are pleased the fan base has grown, and we are proud to call many of these new rocker’s a friend!
Our 2016 dance card is already filling up with some awesome band/venue combinations! AND… we have a confirmation from Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes of a date for our 2nd annual LH Rockfest 2016 – 5/7/16! So save the date and plan on attending this 12-hour event of the year!
See you in January!
Till then, ROCK ON! \m/
