June was an exhausting month of rock! So many bands, so little time! Here’s what happened:
6/3/16: The Ripoffs had taken a needed break from gigging to complete some college degrees and tend to life happenings, but were back this evening at Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin! It’s been a long time, so our first thought was to join in the fun! Angie Bryan and Kendall Volz of Take Out joined the team for this evening to fill in for out-of-towners. We had fun hitting the dance floor to some of our favorite tunes!
6/3/16: It was double rock night, so we stayed with The Ripoffs for one set then headed to Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale to check in with Moonshine Crazy! It has been since January at the Ophir Crab Feed since we last saw these fine folks. We wanted to see how they were progressing as a band. The place was jumpin’ when we walked in after chatting up the band outside while they were on break. They did a great job rockin’ out the country tunes. They even surprised me by playing my favorite country tune, Third Rock From The Sun! Super fun night, start to finish!
6/4/16: Legal Addiction landed in our own backyard at Bar 101 in Roseville, a favorite place of ours to grab some food and drinks! Perfect pairing for a beautiful Saturday night! We always enjoy Legal Addiction’s tunes, which have a late 70’s – early 80’s twist. However, we noticed they have added numerous late 80’s songs to the set list – bonus! Legal Addiction had the fans hoppin’ on the dance floor right up to the last song, so we are counting this evening a success and added it to the memory book!
6/10/16: On The Fly graced the Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes stage once again, to the delight of their faithful fans that came to party! The band laid out the awesome tunes On The Fly is becoming known for, which in turn keeps the fans on the dance floor or tapping their toes in their seats! It’s always a fun time partying with these cool, awesome friends! One set in, but time to leave… that’s right – double rock night, again!
6/10/16: Second stop – Big Gunns is back! It seems like ages since the last time we saw them at Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, but this evening they were kickin’ it at the Opera House Saloon in Roseville! Tons of friends and fellow musicians showed up to support this talented band – it was great to see such love! I got a great Random Riff of Daryl Morales behind the mic and Dave Bass behind the kit for Man In A Box. Don’t miss the video to air on LH August 3rd! Win-win night all the way around!
6/11/16: Percussionist and friend Curt Blankenship asked me months ago to come to Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights on this night to check out his new project, RCA, or Rhythm City Allstars. How could we turn down a personal invitation like this! I don’t think I’ve ever seen Referee’s with so many supportive musicians, fans, friends and family. It was a perfect musical bash! The band has 8 seasoned musicians; including three vocalists, two guitarists and a keyboardist. Song selections ranged from late 70’s through today’s hits. By the 3rd set the band was hitting on all cylinders and the fans couldn’t get enough. They even did an encore that had about 90% of the remaining fans on the dance floor! Afterwards, I had a good chat with Curt about the direction of RCA. He has great focus that should take the band far. We were very impressed with this debut gig, and are looking forward to seeing them again soon.
6/17/16: This lovely June evening presented a new opportunity for LH to party at The Draft Sports Bar & Grill in Arena Softball, Roseville! The Draft’s live music shows start early – between 7 and 8 PM, which will allow us to partake in OUR favorite sport – Double Rock! The talented A-Train band seems to be the first of our bands to book at this new venue, so checking it out was in the cards! First up, hugs and hello’s to the band and some catch-up chat. The Draft’s manager, Frank Benedetto, reserved a table in front of the band for LH family and friends, and came over shortly after we arrived. Frank is one of the nicest people you’d ever meet! We learned some interesting details about the future of live music at The Draft. We tried the very tasty food, sprinkled with seasonings that seemed to pop in our mouths. A-Train put on a great show, and while watching the patrons of all ages who strolled in and out of The Draft, it was apparent that many of these folks had no idea of the live music scene in Sacramento. I believe The Draft can be an avenue to educate and expose the awesome talent this city has to offer to folks that normally would not go out to late-night live music. Job well done, to both A-Train and The Draft for launching this opportunity!
6/17/16: Of course we did partake in our favorite sport of Double Rock and headed for Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, to finish out the night partying with 8 Track Massacre! The Manager pulled a row of tables together to fit all the LH family and friends, giving it the feel of Rockfest 2016! So many wonderful friends showed up to support the band; enjoy the entertainment, food and drinks; and dance the night away! Our good friend, Jan, also enjoyed the night with her birthday celebration! The band had the place hopping all the way to the last song with their cool 80’s pop tunes and super-charged energy! Kudos to 8 Track Massacre for buying a ticket into the memory books!
6/18/16: RedRadio hosted a Toga party at The Corner Pocket Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights, and who are we to pass up a party like this? On the way in, I met some new cool peeps, Jasmine and Virginia, and told them about the band and LH, then invited them to our table. They seemed to enjoy meeting the band and their friends, and some of the LH team. The Toga party added to the fun, party atmosphere, but the fact RedRadio was on fire with their performance is what really made the night special! They debuted some new songs that delighted the dancers, and rocked the rest! We smiled all the way home!
6/24/16: We decided to start our weekend fun at The Draft Sports Bar & Grill at Area Softball with Legal Addiction! We had such a great time at this new venue last week, how could we resist duplicating this good omen! Legal Addiction had a great time entertaining all the fans who stopped by to check out the action, do a little dancing, munch on some yummies, or just sit and relax with a drink. I got a great Recent Hangouts video of ‘Can’t You See’ as the band got more in the zone playing this song than I’ve ever seen them. It truly rocked! We ended up staying right up to closing time, feeling rejuvenated and happy!
6/25/16: Saturday at Swabbies-On-The-River day! We headed out early with a carload of friends to ensure a good parking spot and table up front. Scored on both! When we walked in, a country band, Two Steps Down, was playing on the Fire Pit Stage. They were quite good, and we ended up supporting them for a few songs! I also had a chance to chat with team members from both JoyRide, featuring the music of The Cars, from the Bay Area; and Heartless, A Tribute To The Rock Band Heart. JoyRide was to go on the main stage first, finishing with Heartless. It was great to meet the JoyRide team, some of which were familiar with LH! And of course chatting with my Heartless friends was awesome! Both bands knocked it out of the park with their talent! The fans couldn’t get enough of these nostalgic songs! After one set from Heartless, it was time for us to leave for an evening of rock with two more LH bands!
Two Steps Down
6/25/16: We headed to Corner Pocket Sports Bar in Citrus Heights to check out how Two20 was doing. It’s been a long time, and we were ready! We chatted with some of the team outdoors before the gig and got caught up on current events. The band took the stage and produced those awesome Two20 songs! Special guest John Reed (from 8 Track Massacre) sat in on the keys for the evening while Robert Backus was working in LA. John did a fantastic job – and without a band rehearsal! Sign of a true professional!
6/25/16: It was time for us to head to Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights with RedRadio. (If you’re keeping track, that’s 5 bands and 3 venues in one day!) Owner Nickole was celebrating her birthday complete with Hawaiian Luau theme. The place was nicely decorated, and most were wearing Hawaiian shirts or dresses. The band was top notch with their performance, which kept the fans smiling, dancing and drinking! The bubble machine was of particular interest to some, making others smile even more! We were honored to attend this fun gig, even though it was only for a short while. Arriving home, we were dusty, tired and happy!
Seems the summer months will keep us hoppin’ as we chase the Sacramento based bands all over town! Don’t miss all the fun rockin’ with us brings!
See you in July!
Till then, ROCK ON! \m/
