Departure’s new team members debut at The Corner Pocket Sports Bar in Citrus Heights in December. We are looking forward to welcoming the new members!
We met the Austin Mo Xperience at The Blarney Stone Irish Pub in Orangevale on September 2nd, who became our 59th band! Read about the experience below!
We checked out Rhythm City Allstars (RCA) on September 23rd, and they became our 60th band! Check out the fun we had with them below!
Brian Machado (The Mach 5) joined Blood Red Sky as their percussionist! Both Blood Red Sky and Brian are the winners in this unison! Brian has also been seen occasionally hanging out behind the kit at The Mock Ups’ gigs!
September brought encouraging stats! By the close of September we had a cumulative total of almost 61,000 unique visitors to the website, and over 375,500 page views. You Tube views were almost at the 107,000 mark! New visitor sessions continue to hover around the 50% mark, which continues to bring new fans to the live music scene! Keep visiting LH often for more fun, and be part of these awesome stats!
We are so very grateful and thankful for every one of you who has made a donation to LH; whether direct, or through PayPal on the website! Thank you so much for supporting LH as we support this awesome group of talented musicians! You are in our thoughts every day!
You are always welcome to come party with the LH team! Just check for the “Join LH” on the Home page gig schedule next to the events we will be hanging out at! We’d love to see you out supporting live music and become part of the group we hang out with!
If you go to a gig you saw on LH, please don’t be shy about telling the band! I’m sure they would love to meet you as well as learn how you heard of their gig!
September was another full month of rock. There was no shortage of fun places to go and great memories to be made! Here’s what happened:
9/2/16: Our first stop of the month dropped us at Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, with the 8 Track Massacre band! We always enjoy supporting this awesome band with their fun pop rock tunes that we don’t often get to dance to! There were a couple of fun parties celebrating birthdays, which brought some fun folks to the dance floor. The band rocked the night away, even bringing the birthday pals up on stage to share a song! The band planned to keep the party going with two long sets spanning the night. We had double rock on the schedule, so we had to move on during break.
9/2/16: The second stop of the night dropped us at The Blarney Irish Pub in Orangevale with an amazing 3-piece called The Austin Mo Xperience (AMX). We have been hearing from many friends and fans that this is a band we must see! We walked in during break, allowing us time for introductions and to chat with the team. I learned some fascinating facts about Austin himself. For example, he is a self-taught guitarist and vocalist who turned 19 this month! Such amazing talent coming from such a young person! And talk about talent – who can dispute the awesome abilities of percussionist Kevin Seymour! He is one of our favorite drummers! And we can’t forget the very talented and super fun to watch bassist, Kevin Crider! Kevin’s energy and stage performance is jaw dropping and contagious! He’s in charge of the bass and keys, and juggles the two quite nicely! We were so impressed with AMX that we asked, and they accepted, our offer to be our 59th band on LH! Happy, happy!! Don’t pass up a chance to see this incredible band – we have a feeling they will go far!
9/3/16: Today was a full day at Swabbies On The River with Heartless, A Tribute To The Rock Band Heart; and Hot For Teacher – The Van Halen Experience. We arrived about 3 PM, in time to chat with both bands, and get our table established with drinks and food. It was great to re-connect with the Hot For Teacher team – it’s been a long time since we saw them last at Sammies Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill in Roseville. Heartless rocked the crowd with all those wonderful Heart tunes we all love to hear! Hot For Teacher arrived on stage early evening to a packed dance floor that couldn’t get enough! The band pulled out all the Van Halen favorites, and guitarist Terry Lauderdale served us with his magic fingers on the 5-string! We have one word for Terry – incredible!!! I got a great Drum Off of one of our favorite percussionists, Eddie Studebaker! Check that out on LH October 26th! We consider our Swabbies day a great success!
9/3/16: Since Swabbies On The River ends early by our standards, we decided to finish the night with RedRadio’s show at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale, turning our evening into triple rock! We had a blast partying with this always fun band, and good friend Brian Carrick was celebrating his birthday, kicking the fun up a notch! Brian was having so much fun some of his friends wondered why they had never seen “Drunk Eddie” before! Great night with great friends!
9/5/16: Labor Day always finds us at Swabbies On The River with the awesome Four Barrel band, and this Labor Day was no exception! Lots of our fun friends showed up to relax, share some food and adult beverages, and dance! With Four Barrel at the helm leading the fun, it was a guaranteed good time! The day moved quickly, and before we knew it, we were on our way home with great memories and tired bodies! We won’t forget this long weekend of rock, rock and more rock!
9/9/16: It was RedRadio’s turn to play at The Draft Sports Bar & Grill at Arena Softball in Roseville, and of course, an early gig. That’s a combo we can’t pass up! We had a blast dancing and singing with the band, trying some new beers and food, not to mention the beer ice cream samples provided by The Draft – good stuff – we give it a thumbs up! We ended up staying while the band loaded out so as not to miss a single ounce of good times!
9/10/16: I had promised my good friend Randy Meusling quite some time ago that we would come to the McConnell Estates Winery in Elk Grove to see the Blue Collar Men, A Tribute To Styx and the Great Rock Classics. It’s actually been a couple of years since we last saw them at the Opera House Saloon in Roseville. We arrived in time to say some quick hello’s before the band fine-tuned the stage and their instruments. Then we were off to sample some of the local wines produced in-house. Soon enough the stage action started with some of our favorite Styx tunes. The band knocked it out of the park and had dancers on the second song! The sound was run by Paul Churchill, who did an excellent job of mixing on the go! We had a sweet time enjoying what this band brought to the table, but after a long first set, we headed out to our second rock spot of the evening.
9/10/16: We saw AMX (Austin Mo Xperience) for the first time this month at The Blarney Irish Pub in Orangevale for one set, at which time they became an LH band. We owed it to them to provide the full LH experience and support at a full gig, which was happening at Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights this evening. We arrived before the band started, giving us a chance to check out the new drum head, take a band photo and chat with the team. Then on to the music! It started, stayed and ended pretty much with the same high energy we are growing to expect from this talented team! We left for home smiling and happy inside!
9/16/16: We had been talking with the lead of Journey’s Edge, Steve Abshier, for some time now and he convinced me come see them at my earliest convenience, which happened to be this fine evening at Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin! We found this band to be professional and precise. Lead vocalist Ron Matz nailed the Journey sound. Close your eyes when you see them next and you’ll see what we mean! The large crowd of Journey tribute-band followers felt the same way as they soaked up the ambience and energy that Journey’s Edge delivered. What an excellent night with this great band! We are very happy to now support them!
9/17/16: Four Barrel rarely stops by The Blarney Irish Pub in Orangevale to showcase their talents, but on this particular night, they did, and were firing on all cylinders with fill-in bassist, Kevin Crider! The band seemed to dig the extra energy Kevin brought to the night, producing some spot-on renditions of our favorites, done Four-Barrel style! We had a blast kickin’ our heels up on the floor all night long. Great way to round out this weekend’s festivities!
9/23/16: We were off to Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights tonight to check out Rhythm City Allstars (RCA) with Curt Blankenship, Jae Pomp, Jennifer Moore, Roberto Reyes, Jeff Whitehead, and Barry Del Carlo! We figured with a cast like that, how could you lose? How incredible was it to see lots of our live-music friends and fans there to show support for this rather newly-formed band! The band seemed on fire with its high powered, energetic players. A quick chat on break with lead of the band, Curt Blankenship, yielded a firm “YES” to the LH support I offered! This makes our 60th band!! A great time was had by all as we eventually had to say goodbye to the evening.
9/24/16: A different pace was set for this evening as we headed to the Def Leppard concert at Sleep Train Arena in Wheatland on the Rockin’ N’ Rollin’ Party Bus, compliments of Ken O’Camb! Nineteen of our fun and friendly peeps came along, making this a night we’ll never forget! Do I dare mention a few interesting happenings? How about when Don Preston “crawled” across the ceiling of the bus? Or the fully stocked cooler, and interestingly shaped snacks? Or when we parked at the venue and hung around the bus to do some pictures and dancing before the concert, and the parking attendant coned us off, stating not to venture past the cones? (You know what we did…) Or how complete strangers stopped Don before and after the concert to take pictures with him? (Do you get that often, Don?) It was a night we’ll never forget! Afterwards, the bus dropped us off at Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights and we went inside for a while to enjoy some music, DJ style. The whole night was a great one to have and hold forever! (The lady on the right of the picture photo-bombed us on the way back to the bus, we had no idea who she was!)
It was another month of great rock for the memory books. October starts the holidays, with so many parties and festivities to attend. We won’t have a moment to catch our breath, but we wouldn’t want it any other way! Stay tuned and don’t miss a minute of the future fun! Till then, ROCK ON! \m/
