April 2015

Greetings, Rocker fans!  And welcome to Lynns Hangouts’ newsletter!  Thank you all for signing up so you can get a jump on exciting news!

Band News:

We are getting excited about LH Rockfest 2015 on June 20th!  Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes is excited about hosting the event, our soundman is in place, and the bands are ready to go!  Lots of folks are hitting the ‘Join’ button on Facebook!  If you haven’t done so yet, please plan on joining us!  There will be lots of fun stuff for the kids to do – bowling, arcade, pizza, even watch the bands (until 9 PM)!  And in Halftime the bands each play 1.5 hours with ½ hour in between, enough time to give away some cool stuff, including awards!  The fun starts at noon and runs until midnight!  Happy happy!

We found our 58th band – The Sock Monkey back in March, but finalized things with the band leader in April!  We are pleased this very cool and fun band has joined the ranks!  Next time you see them, join us in welcoming the Monkey!

Set In Stone announced their breakup, with their last show to be at Thunder Valley on 6/13/15.  Lots of sad faces over this news.

Meeting Minutes:

I am excited to report that April stats climbed at a healthy rate!  As of the end of April we had a cumulative total of over 35,000 unique visitors to the website, over 276,800 page views, and a cumulative total of almost 67,000 video views on You Tube!  Another interesting stat – 45% of the sessions on LH were new visitors!  Keep visiting LH often for more fun, and be part of these awesome stats!

If you want to come party with us, check for the “Join LH” on the Home page gig schedule next to the events we will be hanging out at!  We’d love to see you out supporting live music and will grab a dance with you!

If you go to a gig you saw on LH, please don’t be shy about telling the band!  I’m sure they would love to meet you as well as learn how you heard of their gig!

We are so grateful and thankful for every one of you who has made a donation!  Your contribution gives us encouragement and makes it possible to keep up the fast pace checking out the local live music scene here in the Sacramento area.  Thank you for supporting LH as we support this awesome group of talented folks!

Here’s a peek at some of April’s live music fun in the area:

4/3/15:  To start the month out right, we landed at Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, to party with Rogue!  We know Rogue offers a party that won’t quit, and tonight they did just that!  Before the party started and during first break, lead vocalist Randy Scoles spent some time chatting with Lanell and Angelo Dapello (Jet Screamer) and myself.  It was great to get caught up – we found out lead guitarist Greg Young just had a baby Young!  Congratulations, Greg, on the sweet addition to your family!!  As the night progressed, I found some great video opportunities with a Drum Off and a Fan File!  We had a great time and are already looking forward to the next Rogue meet up!

4/10/15:  It’s shaping up to be Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, month – this time with The Tone Monkeys!  A couple of fun surprises took place with our Monkey friends!  First, Steve Cain unveiled his new custom made drum head!  It’s a beautiful monkey with a banana and a glass of wine!  Check out the Tidbits video I took after the gig was over of Steve explaining how this idea came to be, posting on 6/17/15!  Second, my friend Shelley got to check something off her bucket list – sitting behind the kit!  Steve showed her some basics and Shelley enjoyed a few minutes of percussion fun!  It seemed the night was over before it began, a true sign of a good time!

4/11/15:  And again back to Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, to see The Mach 5!  It had been since New Year’s Eve and we were certainly missing this band!  First order of business – hugs all around and some chit chat to catch up!  I got two great Drum Offs (Brian and Steve always provide stellar Drum Off performances) and a great Recent Hangouts video of Hot Blooded!  The Mach 5 energy is always on high, which attracts the fans in groves.  Halftime said tonight was one of their best nights!  No surprise to us!

4/17/15: One more time – back to Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, to party with the Skids!  It’s so fun to watch an 80’s hair band like Skid Roses because they add sprinkles of humor between songs and sometimes IN the songs!  For example, check out the Tickles video of ‘Jesse’s Girl’ where the team finds “a woman like that,” which posts on May 20th. The Skids were on fire this evening, hitting all cylinders on every song!  The fans were happy and tired by the time the night was over.  In the live music world, a true sign of success!

4/18/15:  We were trying a new venue tonight – The Clubhouse Bar & Grill in Carmichael!  The band was 2 Lit 2 Quit!  This is actually our first time seeing the band, and we were very impressed!  The set list rocked with many songs not heard or seldom heard from other bands – such as Breakdown, California Man, Hold On Loosely, and Midnight Rendezvous.  The Clubhouse was full of fun folks that liked to party and dance!  The staff was very friendly and accommodating!  We felt right at home and look forward to partying here often!  I got a fun Drum Off video of Mike Chambers, and a super Random Riff video of vocalist Dino Vergolini out in the audience wooing all the gals!  When ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ was up, the men in the group donned fake beards and sunglasses as props – it was classic!  And it’s all on video as a Recent Hangout for your enjoyment!  We walked away from the evening feeling rejuvenated, fresh, and happy!

4/24/15:  We can’t resist a party taking place especially when it’s at the Opera House Saloon with Unlicensed Therapy!  It actually was raining pretty hard this evening, but that didn’t seem to stop all the fans from showing up for the party!  RedRadio’s lead guitarist, Roberto Reyes, was on stage the whole night to jam with the band and increase the fun for the fans; and bassist Jeff Grenz donned a “one-piece tux” to fit into an opera house spirit!  The band was super entertaining, and the large stage gave lead vocalist Teri Alison some room to bust a move!  Teri was so kind to pull me up on stage to promote LH Rockfest 2015 in June!  We stayed to chat with some folks while the band tore down, if that gives you an idea of how fast the time went!  Having fun – that’s all we can say!

4/25/15:  Heartless and Departure were at Swabbies On The River this beautiful sunny Saturday!  Who could stay away from this kind of fun!  Not many, judging by how packed the place was!  Heartless (a Heart tribute band) pulled all the favorite Heart tunes out of their Bag-O-Tricks to keep the entertainment train rollin’!  If you closed your eyes, lead vocalist Linda Boudreau sounds just like Ann Wilson!  Very impressive indeed!  I couldn’t resist sneaking to the side to get a Drum Off of Steve Scurrah pounding out Barracuda!  Great fun!

Next up – Departure, a Journey tribute band!  I got a super sweet interview with lead guitarist, Andy Gomez!  Andy has a very unique story to tell and you won’t want to miss seeing it on 5/27/15!  Departure’s lead vocalist, Frank House, has another one of those unique voices that if you close your eyes you’d swear you were listening to Steve Perry.  The dance floor was so packed you couldn’t have made it to the stage if you tried!  Everyone had a super fun time!

But our party didn’t end here!  Next we jetted off to Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale to see A-Train for lead vocalist Chandra Laccoarce’s 70’s birthday bash!  We walked in to find the band in 70’s garb complete with go-go boots and pants, peace signs everywhere and all the accessories the 70’s could offer!  And super cool to see a lot of the fans dressed the same!  But back to business!  I secured a fun interview with Chandra – don’t miss her funny gig story to air on 6/10/15!  You won’t believe what happened during the interview that tied her story to a gift she was given on camera!  It’s the candid moments caught on tape that are always the best!  Leave it to A-Train to supply super-charged fun to an event!  Until next time, A-Train!

Wow, now that was a fun month!  May is filled with lots of outdoor events and lots of rockin’!  Rest up and spit shine those shoes – it’s gonna be a wild month!

Till then, ROCK ON!  \m/
