August 2015

Greetings, Rocker fans!  And welcome to Lynns Hangouts’ newsletter!  Thank you all for signing up so you can get a jump on exciting news!

Band News:

IT is working diligently on that new, modern look for the LH website platform!  We are on track to launch the new look in September.  You’ll still see all the great videos of your favorite rock bands, and the calendar will continue to rock!  We hope you’ll enjoy the upgrade!

Bassist John Butterfield has left Four Barrel.  Lonnie Garcia was hired to replace John.  Lonnie is a fulltime, professional musician who was looking for a weekend cover band.  We think he has found a good home with Four Barrel!

I ran into Mike Wildermuth, the lead of PUSH, at Swabbies On The River one day.  He told me PUSH has officially broken up.  That takes us down to 55 bands.

And just like that, we added Paradox Drive, an awesome psychedelic 70’s band, bringing the total back to 56!

The very next night we added Poparazzi, a delightful and professional pop rock band, bringing us back up to 57!  Life is good!

Lead guitarist for Legal Addiction, Dave Gateley, left the band.  We were told Byron Martin took his place, but we have yet to see them play together.  Looking forward to meeting Byron and seeing the magic between the team!

(News Flash – this just in!  Unlicensed Therapy is on the verge of some major announcements regarding the band and future gig dates, according to an announcement on Facebook in early September!  More to follow as we hear!)

Meeting Minutes:

August website stats were the best of 2015 – to date!  As of the end of August, we had a cumulative total of over 41,000 unique visitors to the website; over 294,800 page views; and a cumulative total of over 74,400 video views on You Tube!  New visitor sessions this month moved up to 49%!  Keep visiting LH often for more fun, and be part of these awesome stats!

If you want to come party with us, check for the “Join LH” on the Home page gig schedule next to the events we will be hanging out at!  We’d love to see you out supporting live music and will grab a dance with you!

If you go to a gig you saw on LH, please don’t be shy about telling the band!  I’m sure they would love to meet you as well as learn how you heard of their gig!

We are so grateful and thankful for every one of you who has made a donation to LH!  Your contribution gives us encouragement and makes it possible to keep up the fast pace checking out the local live music scene here in the Sacramento area.  Thank you so much for supporting LH as we support this awesome group of talented folks!

August was a busy and hot rock month!  Here’s what happened:

8/1/15:  We started a double rock night at the Bunz Sports Bar & Pub in Roseville to connect back with The Fabulous Liars band.  And bonus – this was our first time at Bunz Sport Bar & Pub as a venue!  We could only stay one set, but enjoyed our time, nevertheless.  The Fab Liars do classic rock seldom heard by other cover bands!  For example, the song I posted under the Recent Hangouts section was Cinnamon Girl.  We also presented the band with their LH Rockfest Grammy Award!  They were so appreciative!  We met the wives and GF’s and discovered what a group of nice folks they all are!

On to Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, to party the rest of the night with The Mock Ups!  The crowd that settled in was loyal to the band and the dance floor, right up to the last song, even calling fruitlessly for “one more song!”  The band was spot-on with their music.  I spoke to lead guitarist, Jeff Ebbage, after the show who gave me insights into how they pick their song order.  Basically, no set list, just play according to how the crowd reacts!  This works so well for them and keeps the folks on the floor dancing instead of heading to their seats.  I got a chance to chat a bit with some of Halftime’s management who said there are some changes coming to Halftime, all for the better!  We anxiously await to see the implementation of these changes.  What a fun and entertaining evening!

8/7/15:  It’s Friday night and I wanna rock, and the schedule said Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, with The Mach 5!  That always means a fun party!!  It was great to see the team again, it had been awhile!  As the night progressed, it seemed the band had a great time entertaining the fans, and even had some new songs to roll out!  I requested Pump It Up for a video, and the team followed thru with flying colors!  I followed lead guitarist, Dave Chapman, around all night to get a second interview with him.  I finally got the interview after the gig, late at night.  And what a great interview it turned out to be!  It was all about how Dave got his start in The Mach 5.  And of course, for all those that know Dave, he adds much humor to the mix.  Excellent start to a wonderful weekend!

8/8/15:  Our scheduled road trip with Four Barrel to Stars Recreation Center in Vacaville turned out to be a super fun adventure!  We met at lead guitarist Phillip Lovejoy’s house and rode down with him and his lovely wife, Melissa.  We were glad to see Stars was on the north end of Vacaville, in the Nut Tree center.  Since it’s not terribly far away, perhaps it won’t be so long until our next road trip to this fun venue!  We explored the venue while the band loaded in and set up.  Nice restaurant, bar and band area; a separate bar upstairs; and an arcade/birthday area to the side.  Four Barrel was showing off their new bass player, Lonnie Garcia, tonight and we were delighted to meet him and party down!  He is an excellent bass player and has very nice, soothing vocals!  Lonnie is a fulltime musician who had been looking to join a weekend cover band.  Excellent fit for all involved, we say!  We met some new friends who were very nice and full of adventure!  Our good friend Marianne brought belly dancing scarves for all the women dancers to wear and pass around.  That went over so well I bought some the next day for LH to bring to future venues!  We had so much fun, we were disappointed when the band had to stop and load out.  This was a night we will never forget!

8/13/15: This is a hard entry for me to write.  Unlicensed Therapy was playing their final, farewell gig at Fair Oaks Concert-In-The-Park Series this evening.  Hard to believe we will not see this group of talented folks together again.  I think everyone that has ever seen them showed up to say goodbye and support them for their last gig.  It was so great to see such a show of fans, and love filled the air.  I know it was hard for the band to get through the two hour performance, and the final song was so touching – lead vocalist Teri Alison pulled the cone barrier away from the fan area and the fans rushed the stage to be near the team.  Don’t miss the last song of the evening video to air on 9/30/15 under the Fan Files section on LH.  The hugs and photo ops went on for at least an hour after they were done.  It truly was a bittersweet night for us all.

8/14/15:  Don Dileo of Paradox Drive is one of the nicest people I have ever met.  Don has been after me for months to come check out Paradox Drive.  The opportunity finally presented itself at the Country Club Saloon in Loomis!  We were very impressed with the workmanship this band offers, as well as the song choices!  Great tunes of the 70’s psychedelic era!  Such memories come to light.  Percussionist Jay Tausig also sings many of their songs, and has excellent pipes.  We were so impressed, Paradox Drive became our 56th band!  Welcome aboard, Team!!  We are already looking forward to seeing them again!

8/15/15:  Good friend Shelley Magee was having a birthday celebration of sorts at Swabbies On The River this sunny Saturday and Rogue just happened to be the band of choice!  You can’t go wrong when Rogue hits Swabbies stage, and today was no exception!  Lots of fun peeps showed to wish Shelley Happy Birthday and support this awesome band!  Our dear friend, Manni, brought all the fixin’s of a Hawaiian Luau including lei’s, grass skirts, coconut bras, beach balls… you get the idea!  Lots of fun was had with these props, including a great Fan File video of the gals in full Hawaiian garb!  I also got a great Drum Off video of percussionist Bobby Contreras that will air on 10/21/15!  Super fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon and evening!  But wait, there’s more…

Our good friend Doc Dibble asked if we could make it to their Poparazzi gig at Halftime Bar & Grill in Rocklin this evening, so leaving Swabbies a bit early seemed like a logical way to make this request happen!  We were very glad we did, as Poparazzi was so fun!  They are a high-energy dance band with Aimee Wild at the main mic. Our own Bryan Fields (RedRadio) is also Poparazzi’s percussionist!  Aimee has a great voice and leads the band well, so much so that Poparazzi is now band #57 on LH!  We look forward to partying with them again, and plan on getting a Drum Off, interviews, Fan Files – the whole gamut for your viewing enjoyment!  Welcome, team!

8/21/15: The Skid’s were hittin’ the Opera House Saloon in Roseville for the first time tonight, and it seemed everyone was going, so you know where we were headed!  So many wonderful friends joined us – the place was packed!  We started the evening with a cool tailgate party, then moved the fun upstairs to get ready for the show!  One close friend brought those ever-so-cool belly dancing scarves, which had all the ladies shakin’ their groove thang!  Skid Roses made sure everyone had a great time the whole evening; there were smiles and laughter everywhere!  We stayed until the end, calling it quits after the bartender’s kicked us out!  That in itself was one for the memory books!

August is always a fun month because of the long days and warm weather.  Next month we will see the return of our fall garb and more indoor venues.  But hey, change is good, right!!

Till then, ROCK ON!  \m/
