Greetings, Rocker fans! And welcome to Lynns Hangouts’ newsletter! Thank you all for signing up so you can get a jump on exciting news!
As you all know, the new LH website launched March 4th! We are very excited to bring you a more versatile and interactive website. The response has so far been overwhelmingly positive. Everyone loves seeing themselves in the pictures from various events around town!
Update on the Superlicious team: Bassist Dwaine (Deelicious) decided to stay with the band. Their first gig with new guitarist Tom Murphy was April 1st! We wish them the best of success in all future gigs with Tom on board!
On The Fly band officially launched February 6th, which brings our band count up to 60!
This just in: Disco Revolution will soon be converting to a show band; adding live horns, a keyboardist and a third female singer. We were also told they are adding brand new stage costumes and revamping their website! The plan is to play almost exclusively in showrooms and at private events, which means they will be traveling nationally.
LH Rockfest 2016 is closing in on us fast! We had our band meeting and are now working on the final touches! Among other things, there will be raffles with some cool prizes, awesome band swag and autographed photos of the bands! This year is going to be off the chain fun!! Save the date – May 7th, Noon to Midnight, Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin!
February website stats continue to climb, climb! We had a cumulative total of over 49,500 unique visitors to the website; over 329,500 page views; and a cumulative total of almost 88,900 video views on You Tube! New visitor sessions increased to 46%. Every time you visit the LH website, you are contributing to these numbers, and we thank you!
And along the lines of being thankful, we are so grateful and thankful for every one of you who has made a donation to LH! Your contribution gives us encouragement and makes it possible to keep up the fast pace checking out the local live music scene here in the Sacramento area. Thank you so much for supporting LH as we support this awesome group of talented folks! You are in our thoughts every day! You all ROCK!!
You are always welcome to come party with the LH team! Just check for the “Join LH” on the Home page gig schedule next to the events we will be hanging out at! We’d love to see you out supporting live music, and the group we hang out with is growing with such fun folks!
If you go to a gig you saw on LH, please don’t be shy about telling the band! I’m sure they would love to meet you as well as learn how you heard of their gig!
February was a full month of rock. There was no shortage of places to go and bands to see! Here’s what happened:
2/5/16: We started the month in a very special way with Cherry Bomb, A Tribute to John Mellencamp, who landed at the Opera House Saloon in Roseville! Lead vocalist, Casey Corrigan, led the team and the fans through all the Mellencamp hits, then started in on the Bad Company songs! These are songs you don’t often hear from cover bands around town, so it was quite a treat to reminisce back to the day. A great crowd of fans and support showed for this fun event. Our hope is we will see Cherry Bomb gig more often in 2016!
2/6/16: A-Train had taken a few months off for personal reasons, but when we learned of their gig at Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights on this beautiful evening, the decision was easy! A-Train always dresses in a theme and tonight’s theme was football jerseys, to honor Super Bowl 50 tomorrow! And to make tonight a triple special event – it was the owner of Referee’s, Ken and Nickole’s 2-year anniversary of owning the bar! Congratulations to the Fiola’s for making the last 2 years such a success, and here’s to many, many more! We applaud them for supplying such a fun and cool hangout for live music of all genres! A-Train had so much fun entertaining the fans, you couldn’t tell they had any time off – they didn’t miss a skip! The night was all smiles and warm hearts! We were honored to be part of this special night!!
2/12/16: It’s not often we get to see the Department of Rock, our Bay Area band, up in the Sacramento area. Add the fact this is their first time playing at the Opera House Saloon in Roseville, and you’ve got quite a party! We are very proud of this band, as they were asked to play at the Levi Stadium at a Super Bowl 50 party the morning of! That is an excellent honor! The band dresses up like government workers in a ‘Department of Rock’ – complete with desk (covering the keyboards), phone, and all the things you would find on an office desk! And don’t forget their name badges – official Department of Rock, “government” issue! This all lays the grounds for a very fun night of 80’s rock tunes by an awesome and professional band! It’s always a treat to see this band – don’t miss the next time they are up this way – May 6th, at Opera House Saloon!
2/13/16: Jukebox Gumbo, back when LH first launched, was called Jury’s Still Out. Through the years a transformation of sorts took place, including some new team members and the new name! We considered it a treat to check out the results of the transformation at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale this lovely evening. We arrived early and half the tables were already full! Actually, the whole night yielded a busy fan base. Jukebox Gumbo’s set list included some songs seldom heard by other bands, including Never Been To Spain, Take Me To The River and Kung Fu Fighting; which, according to the band, has fans doing their karate dance moves! I got the best ever Random Riff of Suspicious Minds. Lead vocalist Ed Tracey does an awesome job on the vocals, then walks amongst the fans giving many a chance to sing the chorus. But the kicker happens when Ed grabs a Hula Hoop and shows us how it’s done on the dance floor! But wait – there’s more! He then hands the hoop off to fans to show off their hip movements! You’ll have to see this video to see how hysterical this fan participation turned out! Check it out under the Random Riff section on April 6th! We were impressed with Jukebox Gumbo and look forward to seeing them again soon! FYI – the band calls dedicated fans “Gumbo Heads!” Love it!!
2/19/16: We were in the mood for some psychedelic 70’s music and found Country Club Saloon in Loomis to be our venue of choice as Paradox Drive took the stage! As luck would have it, we ran into some good friends who enhanced the evening! Tonight’s kicker was three dogs that hung around indoors, one of whom seemed to love these tunes and couldn’t stay away from the stage! He even got in on the group photo! Great fun for a Friday start to the weekend!
2/20/16: Tonight’s festivities were scheduled to take place at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale with Unlicensed Therapy. Rumor had it a special birthday was being celebrated – the band’s percussionist, Chris McCown’s 50th! The place filled up fast with lots of band fans, LH friends, and new friends to be made! Unlicensed Therapy sprang some new songs on the crowd, who went crazy for the goods!
2/20/16: After one set, we jetted over to The Blarney Stone Irish Pub right up the street to check out a country band, Steel Rose, for a few songs! They had a good crowd enjoying what they did and we could easily see why! I got a Random Riff video for the collection, and after about 5 songs we headed back to Jan’s to finish up the night with the birthday crowd! And there was still cake left when we got back! Life is good!
2/26/16: Tonight was another Opera House Saloon debut with one of LH bands – Riff Raff, this time! Riff Raff always pulls a crowd, and hosting them at Opera House Saloon was a sure-fire win! The night played out exactly as such – a lot of awesome LH fans and friends showed up, and we made new friends! The band seemed to enjoy their time on stage, giving the fans two long sets! I took a Fan File and a Random Riff video while on stage to film a Drum Off of Kevin Drummer. I’m here to tell you, the view from up top of all the fans was pretty darn awesome! A successful night for Riff Raff and Opera House. I’m sure we will see them at the Opera House Saloon again soon!
2/27/16: Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, hosted the awesome Rebel Yell band this fine evening! It’s been too long since we’ve seen this fun team, which made catching up after the gig quite the adventure! It seems the fans were so into the fun, the Fan File and Random Riff videos were coming out of the wall – low hanging fruit! To top off the night, I was so touched when a fan came up and gave me a donation stating Lynns Hangouts saved her so much time by not having to go through all the band and venue websites to find a place to dance. The most priceless compliment ever! This is what LH is all about – connections. It truly was a top shelf evening! This nicely rounded out our month of rock!
Another month zooms by unexpectedly fast. As we face the 3rd month, March’s dance card seems to be filling up with some great band/venue combos! Stay tuned as we continue to chase as many bands as we can, adding page after page to the Memory Book!
See you in March!
Till then, ROCK ON! \m/
