Greetings, Rocker fans! And welcome to Lynns Hangouts’ newsletter! Thank you all for signing up so you can get a jump on exciting news!
Our IT Department is continuing their working on the new, modern look for the LH website platform! It’s taking a bit longer than anticipated, but I think you’ll enjoy all LH will have to offer! You’ll still see all the great videos of your favorite rock bands, and the new calendar rocks!
And good news from our Marketing Department! The LH T-Shirts and Hoodies are almost ready for purchase! We’ve had lots of folks interested in buying them for Christmas gifts, so stay tuned on Facebook for more details!
Category 4 is breaking up. They have 1 gig left at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale on 12/11/15. Please make plans to join us as we send them off with love and appreciation! They had a 15 year run – not bad for a local band!
Unlicensed Therapy is back with a new singer, Dana Caylor! Their first gig is 12/19/15 at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale. Make plans to join us as we welcome Dana to the team!
Disco Revolution became our 58th band! See below how and where that happened!
And not to be left out, Heartless – A Tribute to the Rock Band Heart – became our 59th band! Details are below!
Joe Liszt, vocalist for Joe Friday band, is leaving the band. They are looking for a replacement that can do 80’s hair band tunes.
Lonnie Garcia, bassist for Four Barrel, had to leave the band for family reasons. Mark Sargent, who is also the bass player in Playback The Hits, is their new bassist!
And speaking of Playback The Hits, Gordon Groft has left the band to focus on other projects, including the new country band, Straight Shooters with Teri Alison! I have been told Playback The Hits will probably stay a 4-piece and not replace Gordon.
October website stats were over the top! As of the end of October, we had a cumulative total of almost 44,000 unique visitors to the website; almost 306,000 page views; and a cumulative total of over 79,000 video views on You Tube! And new visitor sessions hung around 50%! Keep visiting LH often for more fun, and be part of these awesome stats!
You are always welcome to come party with the LH team! Just check for the “Join LH” on the Home page gig schedule next to the events we will be hanging out at! We’d love to see you out supporting live music!
If you go to a gig you saw on LH, please don’t be shy about telling the band! I’m sure they would love to meet you as well as learn how you heard of their gig!
We are so very grateful and thankful for every one of you who has made a donation to LH! Your contribution gives us encouragement and makes it possible to keep up the fast pace checking out the local live music scene here in the Sacramento area. Thank you so much for supporting LH as we support this awesome group of talented folks!
October was a fun rock month, starting into the Holidays! Here’s what happened:
10/2/15: Four Barrel secured the Opera House Saloon in Roseville for another first Friday of the month and we told lead guitarist, Phillip Lovejoy, we would be there to support! So glad we went, it was a super fun evening of Four Barrel rock! I got a great Fan File of a country couple doing some past-paced twirls to a rock song, which will air in December! We stayed until the last song and pretty much closed the place!
10/3/15: We decided to hit up Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale to see what Mere Mortals was all about, since we had never seen them. We met the band, who are all very nice folks, took some pictures together, then proceeded to rock! They had a jazzy, bluesy sound to their songs, but we only stayed for one set. I did look at the set list and found the songs on the 2nd and 3rd set to really rock, so the plan is to head back their way again someday soon, stay the whole gig, and really get a feel for what they do!
The one LH band that was playing in the Sacramento area tonight was The Tone Monkeys at Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights. We arrived to find the place packed and the band on fire! We had so much fun meeting new people, posing for pictures, and jumping around the dance floor to our favorite Tone Monkey songs. It was lead guitarist Dante Mutti’s birthday, so we had fun teasing him about getting older and wishing him a great birthday! All in all, the evening was a success and we had a blast!
10/9/15: Good friend Scott Uhlenbrock, of Four Barrel fame, made plans with us months ago to head out to Swabbies On The River to check out Rash Rush, a Rush tribute band. We were pretty excited to see this performance, as Rush songs are known for their complexity. Can a tribute band really capture their essence? Honestly…they did, with a very impressive performance! The crowd consisted of mainly hardcore Rush fans, who were into every note. Of course, we had to record ‘Tom Sawyer’ for LH, which can be seen under the Random Riffs section on 12/16/15! Rash was such a treat, we highly recommend you go to one of their gigs if you get the chance!
After experiencing the concert-like atmosphere with Rash Rush, we headed off to Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale to see our good friends in Category 4. There are not many chances left to see this wonderful team together since their last gig is 12/11/15, so we had to grab this opportunity! We had such a blast with the large crowd of fans, and appreciated the chance to get some dancing in to work off the Swabbies tacos! The band seemed to respond to our energy by having as much fun as we did – right up to the last song! Rick, a good friend of lead vocalist, Jeff Lewis, sat in for a high energy song that had fans moving-an’-a-shaking! During the breaks, we got a chance to chat with each band member about their future plans. It won’t be long before we’ll see each of them out and about in a different capacity – the future looks bright! Excellent adventures today!
10/10/15: Two20 was back in action at The Corner Pocket Sports Bar in Citrus Heights, so off we went in force to party down with this awesome band! We had a super fun birthday dinner beforehand for LH’s own IT and Marketeer, Brett Brashear! Happy Birthday, Brett! Samantha Spike looked gorgeous in her outfit and took the stage with presence! We enjoyed their new songs, which included Journey, Cheap Trick and some old time favs of most everyone! The night went by so fast; you know it was a good time!
10/16/15: For a pre-party of sorts before heading to the Opera House Saloon for tonight’s main event, we walked over to The Trocadero in old town Roseville to check out Walkin’ The Dawg. Our good friend Steve Wittig is the percussionist in this band and we have actually never seen Steve play! We could only stay an hour but we enjoyed the fun not-so-often-played songs this cool band does! And how much fun was it when the two guitarists came down on the dance floor and played their guitars behind their heads, then proceeded to lay on the floor and play! It all happened so fast I didn’t have time to grab my camera, but trust me, it was pretty darn cool!
When the clock struck 9 PM, we walked over to the Opera House Saloon for the main event of the evening – Disco Revolution! I was able to meet ‘Ms. Foxy’ before the show started and found her to be so sweet and friendly! The first song started, and the dance floor packed up within the first 2 bars of the song! Fans are crazy about this band! I chatted with one fan, who I will lovingly call the Disco King, who told me he came all the way from Redding to see them! Of course, I promptly gave him a card so he can keep an eye on the Sacramento music scene! The Disco Revolution team are quite the performers – very impressive energy, choreographed, musical skills – well rounded and professional band! During their first break I managed to capture them all in one spot and asked them to join LH, of which the lead of the band, Zak Muzic, promptly said YES!!!! Everyone broke out in high fives, smiles, hugs and laughs! What a cool moment! This makes 58 bands! I filmed a very cool Drum Off of Breezee doing his thang, and a great Fan File of the band teaching the fans how to do the Hustle! The only thing that would have made tonight better was to have my sidekick, Shelley, along for the ride. She will be with us next time, I’m sure, so she can experience this amazing fun!
10/17/15: Today was the last day at Swabbies On The River for bands to play on the big stage, until next season. You can still enjoy acoustic music on the small stage back by the fire pit, but for us, this was one last opportunity to get our party-on all day long! The weather was beautiful and warm, considering it poured down rain the night before! So many things happened – where do I begin! I had a great talk with Chris, the owner, about his interview that we will capture at the beginning of next season to help promote Swabbies and get the inside scoop on how the Swabbies concept started, the yummy food they serve and how they book their bands. I did get a great interview with Randy Barranco, who partners with a brilliant custom guitar designer in a business called Roque Batty! It aired early November – you won’t want to miss it! On to the entertainment! Today’s lineup started with Heartless – A Tribute to the Rock Band Heart, moved to Foo Fighters Unauthorized, and finished with Skid Roses! A full day indeed, but so much fun!
Heartless never ceases to amaze us with their timeless Heart songs and amazing similarities to the original band, right down to the Wilson sister’s guitar playing and voice! They knocked it out of the park this gig, so much so I asked them to be my 59th band! They were so pleased to become part of the LH team, we had a wonderful chat about everything musical and magical up by the restaurant!
The Foo Fighters Unauthorized team includes two of our very good friends, Mike Barnes and Kevin Drummer. Kevin asked me to record ‘My Hero’ for his drum off, and after I did, I knew why! It was perfect for his abilities and performance. You can see what I mean on 12/16/15 under the Drum Off section!
The finale of the day, brought to you Skid Roses’ style, was stellar! Right down to the jokes lead vocalist Jef Leppard told in between songs. And an added bonus – a country song Jef started singing caught on video, to post on 12/23/15 under the Tickles section of LH! The Skids were in excellent form and seemed to enjoy performing to the huge crowd this last full day at Swabbies!

But…believe it or not, we were not done! We left Swabbies a tad bit early and headed to Halftime Bar & Grill in Strikes, Rocklin, to support our good friends in The Mach 5. When we arrived, we found Brian Machado, guitarist and percussionist for the band, in a cast from a broken foot! During a break, two friends captured his attention and chatted about how it happened. The band had a super fun time entertaining the crowd of patrons and dancers with some new tunes! That is one thing we can always count on with The Mach 5 – every time we see them, they have new songs! Such a talented group, we are so proud to have them as part of the LH team and as friends! What a wonderful day of live music, friends and awesome fun! If you joined us and are reading this now, thank you for being part of the memory book!
10/24/15: RedRadio was having a Rock Horror Halloween Bash at The Corner Pocket Sports Bar in Citrus Heights this fine evening, and that’s just the green light we needed to show up in our costumes and party down! Tracy Butler, lead vocalist, had such a cool costume – a dress with spider webs and sparkles. She called it her web-a-dress! So clever! And Shelley looked awesome in her I dream Of Jeannie costume! Then there was Brett looking so much like Slash – or was it Slash…. questions to ponder! One never knows what goes down this time of year! The team did an awesome job of entertaining “the troops” with their rockin’ cool songs! We look forward to our next RedRadio event after they take a short hiatus!
10/30/15: Tonight we joined Four Barrel at Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale for some Halloween eve festivities! Jan’s was perfectly decorated, as always, with the Holiday spirit, and there were lots of great costumes – some close peeps even wore rocker attire, as well as myself (what else would I wear!!) This was the first time we were able to check out bassist Mark Sargent playing in Four Barrel (Mark is also in Playback The Hits so we are familiar with his awesome talent) and we found Mark to be a great fit. The music hit on all cylinders, and the place was hoppin’ with fans right up until the last song, which was a bit past 1 AM! I have never seen that many folks stay to the end! Afterwards, I chatted with Mark who said he had a blast. Great to know he felt what we did! Couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Halloween weekend!
10/31/15: Halloween – the main event, what every October party giver, goer and planner looks forward to! The costumes purchased and tried on, the party invite’s sent, the fresh food positioned on trays, the candy for the Trick-Or-Treaters – all adds to the excitement and fun! But you know us rockers, we donned our costumes and headed for The Corner Pocket Sports Bar in Citrus Heights for our annual party with AC/D’Ceased, aka Riff Raff! There were so many fans in costumes, some hard to recognize behind the facade! AC/D’Ceased was spot on with their tunes, even playing from the new album, Rock Or Bust! I’m sure you can imagine what a fun, interesting and at times ‘frightful’ night this was. Make plans to join us next year and become part of this awesome tradition at The Corner Pocket with Riff Raff!
Seemed like October was a whirlwind – so much to do, so much to see, so little time! But so much fun! Now we turn the corner into November. There’s lots of fun rock on the schedule, with a Chili Cook-off and private party thrown in to mix it up! And don’t forget, the rock doesn’t stop the weekend after Thanksgiving, we hope you can squeeze in some live music around all that shopping!
Till then, ROCK ON! \m/
