September 2014

Greetings, Rocker fans!  And welcome to Lynns Hangouts’ newsletter!  Thank you all for signing up so you can get a jump on exciting news!

Meeting Minutes:

We recently upgraded the video camera and microphone used to capture all the wonderful videos you see on LH.  There were some trials involved with dialing in the settings, but we finally achieved success!

Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill reopened in Downtown Roseville on September 16th.  Some of LH bands have already played here, and we are looking to see more in the future!

Cherry Bomb, our John Mellencamp Tribute band, is back!  Their first gig was at Swabbies On The River on 9/7/14, opening for The Spazmatics!  You have been missed!

Red Radio has some new team members!  Join me in welcoming percussionist Bryan Fields and bassist Rick Rapalee to the team!

Radio Heavy’s percussionist, Matt Lipford, has joined Jet Screamer, which has become our 57th band!

Look for Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill’s ad to be up on LH in October!  Owner Ken Fiola said his graphic is almost ready for unveiling!  Please come check out this very fun and personable sports venue and say hi to owners Nickole and Ken when you do!

I am excited to report our September website stats rock!  As of the end of September we saw a cumulative total of over 25,000 visitors and almost 248,000 page views!  We are very pleased with our consistent growth!  Keep visiting LH often for more fun, and be part of these awesome stats!

If you want to come party with us, check the Twitter feed on LH for details of where we will be hanging out and come join us!  We’d love to see you out supporting live music and we’ll grab a dance with you!

If you go to a gig you saw on LH, please don’t be shy about telling the band!  I’m sure they would love to meet you as well as learn how you heard of their gig!

Check out our ‘Categories’ feature on the right-hand side of the website so you can see all the fun videos posted from the beginning of LH!

I also want to thank everyone who has made a donation to LH!  Your contribution is greatly appreciated and gives encouragement to keep up the fast pace!  The local live music scene here in the Sacramento area is constantly evolving, and we strive to keep you updated on the local talent!  Your donation helps make this possible.  Thank you again for supporting LH as we support this awesome group of talented folks!

Let’s take a trip back in September to see how live music rocked Sacramento:

9/5/14:  Riff Raff was asked by the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn to open for Starship on the big stage!  What a thrill it was to see this awesome band in such a limelight!  And of course, they were off-the-chain great!  The crowd gathered to watch, listen and move to the groove of everyone’s favorite AC/DC songs.  Spectacular start to a full night of live music!

We stayed for Starship and had a super fun time!  Of course, we were right up front to support this amazing band and enjoy all the moves and music they had to offer!  I had forgotten many of their great hits, and the trip down memory lane was so fun!  Everyone had their cell phones out snapping pictures and videos.  They were a great group of fans to party with!

Radio Heavy was also playing at the Auburn Fair, right after Starship!  This night was good as gold – three awesome shows at one venue!  Since it was much later in the evening, the crowd was more interesting than ever, and the band played on a large stage with more intimate seating for the fans.  Lead guitarist John Goodwin seemed to feed off the crowd’s energy and had a great night of entertaining us from all sides of the stage!  Everyone on and off the stage was having so much fun, it was hard to say good night to all this!

9/6/14:  Laugh’s Unlimited in old Sacramento brought Unlicensed Therapy to their stage one fun Saturday afternoon, and we couldn’t resist showing up to see what the band had cookin’, which we found to be FUN with a side of entertainment and a dash of excitement!  They had so many folks out on the dance floor – singing, swinging and smiling!  Two of our favorite fans took a shot at Swing dancing, which posted under the Fan Files section; and lead vocalist Teri Alison was at it again – singing up on the bar!  So much fun!  On break, I got a great interview with Heidi Perry, who is the agent/promoter for Unlicensed Therapy.  Check it out to learn how she fell into that side of the business!  All in all, a stellar-fun day!

Rumor had it Skid Roses’ tour bus was due back in Rocklin – Strikes Halftime Bar & Grill, to be exact!  We loaded up the dogs and applied our best 80’s hair and garb to rock out in style with The Skids!  They always put on such a party and show and tonight was grand!  The band rocked out the hits one after another, even adding a twist to two of our favorite songs, Bad Motor Scooter and I Can’t Drive 55, which can be seen under the Recent Hangouts section of LH!  Lots of live music fans showed up for this event and stayed to the very last note!  Rockin’ great time, Skids!

9/12/14:  It had been way too long since we last saw the Category 4 team, so we packed up the camera and headed off to Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale with the expectation of an awesome evening!  And awesome it was!  The band was polished and spot-on with their tunes, which kept the energy high and the fans happy!  The usual Jan’s crowd joined us on the dance floor along with some fans new to us who quickly became our friends!  I got Chad, the bartender, out on the floor again for a dance – thank you Chad!  Category 4 played so many songs not often heard around the cover band circuit, making it hard to leave, and we ended up staying into the wee hours of the…morning!  Excellent adventure!

9/13/14:  When The Mach 5 graces the stage at Strikes Halftime Bar & Grill in Rocklin, we just gotta go and see the boys!  What a night!  Lots of LH friends were there to help make the night super fun, such as Shelley, Tracy, Lynn, Jan, Patsy, Rebecca and Unlicensed Therapy’s own Teri Alison, who was asked on stage to sing with the band!  I got two great Drum Off videos, because this band has two drummers!  In fact, their third set is changed around so it sounds like a different band!  A keyboard is added and the players move to different instruments/vocals.  If you haven’t seen this transformation, you owe it to yourself to come have some fun with The Mach 5 team!

9/19/14:  We’ve been missing the fun surroundings of the Country Club Saloon in Loomis.  A quick check of the gig schedule on LH told us The Mock Ups were there, and so were we!  The Mock Ups play 60’s and 70’s tunes so all the fans knew the songs and were singing along and doing a dance!  We saw some peeps that we had not seen in some time that follow The Mock Ups and it was great to get caught up!  Lead vocalist Miles French sat behind the kit for a few songs and had a blast!  Some personnel changes just for the night – Kevin Williams sat in as percussionist for the band’s regular drummer, and Greg Hayes joined the band on stage for some behind-the-guitar work!  It’s always a fun time when The Mock Ups are in the house!

9/20/14:  We had so much fun last month at Main Street El Dorado with Super Huey we couldn’t resist the urge to see them again at Roseville Square in Roseville!   The courtyard was packed as fans settled in with their chairs for a rockin’ good concert!  You know we couldn’t possibly sit down during live music so we spent the evening rockin’ out by the stage!  So many fun things to tell you about!  A youngster named Tobin got to sing Workin’ For A Livin’.  This is a must-see video under the Random Riffs section!  Apparently Tobin has a video on You Tube singing this song.  The crowd went wild for him when he was done.  Too cute for words!  D’licious and Raylicious from Superlicious were running sound for the event.  It was great to see them again and chat a bit.  They did an excellent job making sure the gig was of excellent sound!

Did I mention it was double rock night?  Super Huey was done by 9:30 so we jetted off to Referee’s Sports Bar & Grill in Citrus Heights for a couple of reasons.  First, it was owner Ken Fiola’s birthday and we had to help him celebrate!  And second, our good friend Angelo Dapello asked us to come check out their newly reformatted band, Jet Screamer!  When we walked in, the place was packed, and the music was loud and good!  There were so many LH friends in the venue that came over to great us when we got to the dance floor, it took about 10 minutes to hug and say hi!  When we could actually focus on the band, we found them to be amazingly good for their first time out with new members!  And their song selections were fresh and rockin’ hot!  Songs you hardly hear cover bands do, yet still favorites with high energy.  Needless to say, Jet Screamer is now LH’s 57th band!  Welcome to Lynns Hangouts, Team!  Job well done!

9/26/14:  We were super excited about tonight’s festivities!  I picked up a dear friend and we headed off to the Out Of Bounds Brewing Company in Rocklin to party with our friends, The Ripoffs!  Even though we have become friends with the band, they have never had a video up on LH, so they were quite excited about the night!  They also had a couple of guests up on stage – one percussionist, one guitarist and one vocalist – all of which were early teenagers!  They did an excellent job, we were very impressed!  Did I mention the place was packed with awesome people?  The band had a lot of family and friend support, but we also ran into 3/5th’s of the Unlicensed Therapy team, as well as the lead vocalist for Red Radio, and some of LH’s dance friends!  So much fun!!

It was a super fun and festive evening at Out Of Bounds Brewing Company, but it ended shortly after 9 PM.  I’m sure you know LH is never ready to end an evening at 9 PM!  As luck would have it, we had heard Celebration Day was playing at The Country Club Saloon in Loomis, right up the street!  Seemed a no-brainer to head on over, and we were so glad we did!  Celebration Day is a Led Zeppelin Tribute Band.  We were in awe at the resemblance to Let Zeppelin all the way from the lead vocalist Doug Richwine, to the guitarist Jesse Costa, to the percussionist John Linn!  Please check out the awesome videos on LH of this great band and go support them when you see they are playing!

9/27/14:  It’s Swabbies-On-The-River Day and quite possibly the last time this season we will party at Swabbies.  That is always a sad day, as we love this venue, but it did go out with a bang!  We saw four bands – Cats Barking and Riff Raff were the two bands LH supports; then Lovedrive, a Scorpions Tribute Band; and Judas Thieves, (I’m sure you can guess what they tribute)!  Cats Barking played in between the other bands during set up, so they got a lot of exposure!  The two tribute bands were awesome and have some very talented musicians!  It was an honor to meet the teams and take some videos.  You can view them on LH under the Random Riffs section!

Cats Barking

Riff Raff

Judas Thieves

And as if four bands weren’t enough, we still had time to jet to Jan’s Lounge in Orangevale with Unlicensed Therapy for an hour of fun and frolic!  We actually brought about 6 fans from Swabbies with us.  The band was hot, and lead vocalist Teri Alison was hotter!  She was dressed to kill and brought down the house with her awesome sultry voice!  All I can say is a good time was had by all, and we were so happy we snuck this extra rock in the schedule!

9/28/14:  Four Barrel Sunday!  Yes indeed, Laugh’s Unlimited in old Sacramento is the place for us to be 4th Sunday of every month with this awesome band!  And also because we wanted to break our record and see eight bands over the weekend!  Four Barrel was well rested and ready to pour out the rock to the willing fans!  Phillip Lovejoy was up to his usual charming ways of enticing someone to help him play his guitar, and today he found a willing participant who became an instant fan!  Check out that video under the Fan Files section!  While we were a bit tired from the weekend, we gave it our all and danced the afternoon away.  We figured Monday is for rest, right?  Awesome day!

September seemed to pass in a breath – so quick.  October starts the happy-holiday months of rock!  Lots of parties to attend!  Please continue to make plans to free up some time and join us in supporting our local musicians!

Till then, ROCK ON!  \m/
